X Illa Nova Literary Prize for Narrative 2026

Editorial Galaxia, in collaboration with El Corte Inglés, and in its support of Galician culture, announces the tenth edition of the llla Nova Literary Prize 2026 for authors under 35 years of age.

In 1957, Editorial Galaxia launched the llla Nova collection with the aim of continuing its publishing project by supporting new generations, always with a desire for renewal. Xohana Torres, Xosé Luís Méndez Ferrín, Xosé Luís Franco Grande, Bernardino Graña, Camilo Gonsar, María Xosé Queizán, and Carlos Casares were some of the emerging talents who published in the collection, which included some of the key works of what would become known as the "New Galician Narrative."

With this same purpose—to give visibility to those beginning their careers in the world of literary creation—the llla Nova Literary Prize was established in 2017, and this year marks its tenth edition. The Illa Nova Narrative Prize is thus established as an initiative to support literary creation in Galician and the recognition of new authors, strengthening the collaboration between two entities committed to the dissemination of Galician culture.

This prize will be awarded according to the following RULES:

  1. Individuals under 35 years of age on the closing date for submissions of original works are eligible for the prize.
  2. Submitted works must be written in Galician, in accordance with current regulations. They must be original, unpublished in whole or in part, and must not have been awarded a prize in any other competition, either in whole or in part. Furthermore, no type of generative AI may be used in their creation, a fact that must be certified by a sworn statement of originality, authorship, and non-use of generative AI in their creation.
  3. Novels or collections of short stories with a minimum length of 150,000 characters (including spaces) may be submitted. Authors must indicate the total number of characters, including spaces, in their original work on the last attached page. They must send six printed copies, bound or sewn, along with a USB drive containing the work in PDF format, to the following address: Premio III Nova de Narrativa Editorial Galaxia. Travesía de Vigo, 71, Soto, 36206-Vigo. The deadline for receiving original works is April 30, 2026.
  4. Original works must be signed with a pseudonym and a motto, which must also appear on the outside of an envelope containing the following information: name, surname, address, photocopy of ID card, and contact telephone number, as well as the sworn statement indicated in section 2.
  5. The jury will be composed of prominent figures from the Galician cultural and literary scene. Whenever possible, it will consist of four members and a secretary representing Editorial Galaxia, with voting rights.
  6. The prize will be awarded to the work that, unanimously or, failing that, by majority vote, is deemed worthy of the distinction. The jury may declare the prize void. If it deems it appropriate, the jury may select a work as a finalist, opening a deposit for it, and, with the author's authorization, its name and title will be made public. The winning work will be published by Editorial Galaxia, which will sign a standard publishing contract with its author, granting them 1% of the royalties.
  7. The jury's decision will be final and will be made public in July 2026.
  8. A single, indivisible prize of €3,000 will be awarded (subject to applicable tax withholdings). The amount received will be considered an advance on royalties for the publication of the winning work.
  9. The winning work, as well as the runner-up, if any, will be published and marketed by Editorial Galaxia, and the first presentation will take place at one of the El Corte Inglés department stores in Galicia.
  10. Original works that do not win a prize will be destroyed.
  11. Editorial Galaxia reserves, for a period of 3 months from the date of publication of the verdict, the right of first refusal to acquire the edition of any work submitted to the competition that, even if it does not win a prize, is considered to be of interest, subject to the signing of the corresponding contract between the parties.
  12. Participation in the contest implies full and unconditional acceptance of these rules.
