On Thursday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m., the Sala de Ambito Cultural del Corte Inglés Santiago de Compostela will host the fifth and final debate on the finalist novels of the 19th edition of the Premio Novela Europea Casino de Santiago.

'El cantar del profeta' by Paul Lynch will be the subject of the literary colloquium moderated by Marga Vidal, Marian Rey and Maribel Martín.

About the novel

Set in a gloomy and oppressive Dublin, the novel follows Eilish Stack, mother of four and scientist, whose life takes a radical turn when two agents of the secret police arrive at her home to interrogate her husband, a trade unionist who has participated in recent demonstrations.

The home, family and country that Eilish knew and trusted are about to fall apart.

When her husband doesn't come home, she tries to convince herself that it was a misunderstanding. But the days pass, the disappearances multiply and the riots become more and more frequent. As fear sets in among the neighbors, Eilish has to decide between looking for her husband, caring for her sick father or controlling her three children and their desire to face the new totalitarian order.

The story is a powerful reflection on loss, resistance and family love in times of political repression. Don't miss it!
