The journalist and writer Pablo Vierci presents his latest book, “El niño que heredó el silencio”, a brave and daring novel that addresses a deeply relevant contemporary issue.
His book “La sociedad de la nieve” was adapted into a film by J. A. Bayona, in which the author also served as an associate producer. With a career marked by a strong interest in complex human stories and ethical dilemmas, in this book Pablo Vierci “aborda el abuso sexual infantil, la manipulación emocional, la responsabilidad de los adultos, la traición familiar y la transmisión del trauma a lo largo del tiempo. Además, explora las huellas psicológicas que deja el abuso: la culpa, la disociación, la pérdida de la identidad y la dificultad para poner en palabras lo ocurrido”.
The author will be joined by writer Carmen Posadas and psychologist Rafa Guerrero.

About Pablo Vierci
Pablo Vierci (Montevideo, 1950) has written Los tramoyistas (1979, translated into two languages), Pequeña historia de una mujer (1984), Detrás de los árboles (1987), 99% asesinado (2004), La sociedad de la nieve (2008, translated into nine languages), De Marx a Obama (2010), Artigas La Redota (2011), El desertor (2012), Ellas 5 (2014), Tenía que sobrevivir (2016, co‑authored with Roberto Canessa, translated into three languages), El fin de la inocencia (2018), and La redención de Pascasio Báez (2021).
The book “La sociedad de la nieve” was adapted into a film with the same title, in which the author was also an associate producer. The film received two nominations at the 2024 Oscars, including Best International Feature Film, as well as nominations for the 2024 Golden Globes and the 2024 BAFTAs for Best Non‑English Language Film.
He has written screenplays for the feature films Aqueles dois (1985), El viñedo (1999), Matar a todos (2007), and Artigas La Redota (2011). He has twice received the Second National Literature Prize of Uruguay (1987 and 2004) and twice the Libro de Oro Prize from the Uruguayan Book Chamber (2009 and 2024). His screenplays earned the Fona Award (1999), the Best Screenplay Award at the 29th Havana Film Festival (2007), and the Best Screenplay Award at the 14th Lleida Film Festival (2008). In 2003, he received the Citi Journalistic Excellence Award at Columbia University in New York.
