Book launch: “Con esta hoz/ Con esta fouce” by Samuel Merino

Our latest winner of the #LdeLírica National Poetry Prize, Samuel Merino, is visiting us to present his collection of poems “Con esta hoz”/“Con esta fouce” (Disbauxa), a book that contains several books within itself and offers multiple interpretations.

This collection of poems is a journey both backwards and forwards, in which you can explore various paths that, although they traverse the same landscape, will always surprise you by offering a different perspective.

Accompanied by Manu Badás, choreographer, cultural manager and editor, and Gonzalo Escarpa, poet, coordinator of #LdeLírica and Director of La Piscifactoría, Merino will share with us all the creative background to this book and we will be able to enjoy a wonderful recital.

  • Monday 23 March at 7.30 pm
  • In-person attendance subject to capacity
  • Streaming broadcast. Follow it on the AC YouTube channel

About Samuel Merino

Mos (Pontevedra, 1982) is an artist whose work revolves around a poetic sensibility shaped by his philosophical background (he holds a degree in Philosophy from the University of Santiago de Compostela) and his training and experience in the performing arts. Winner of the 13th Manuel Lueiro Rey Poetry Prize for the work Manual de camuflaxe (2025) and the L de Lírica National Prize for Living Poetry (2025).

His works, which are markedly reflective in nature, often take shape through the oral tradition of recitals and in short presentations that traverse the realms of theatre and performance. Such is the case with Mudar a pel (2018), Vida útil da porcelana (2023, 2nd Pezas dun Teatro do Porvir Prize – Galicia–Portugal) and De rota raposa (2025); the latter two were co-created with the poet and performer Silvia Penas.

In this vein, notable works among her published literary output include *Guantanamera. Poema nun só acto (Editora Urutau, 2021), Con esta hoz / Con esta fouce (Disbauxa Editorial, 2023), Claustro Corda Comensal (Editorial Galaxia, 2023) and Manual de Camuflaxe (Edicións Xerais de Galicia, 2025).

For many years, he has participated in various programmes promoting the Galician language through recitals and stage performances, as well as in various secondary schools and reading clubs in Galicia and at poetry and performing arts festivals at regional and national levels. These include: the Vigo en Bruto Theatre Festival (Vigo, 2018); Non quero rosas. Loro Facu Music and Arts Festival (Miño–A Coruña, 2019); Irreconciliables International Poetry Festival (Málaga, 2020); BINNAR International Arts Festival, with the Límites Collective (Vila Nova de Famalicão, Portugal, 2021); Non quero rosas. Loro Facu Music and Arts Festival (Miño–A Coruña, 2021); Poesía enRiba Performance Poetry Festival (Ribadavia, 2021); We’ll Have More Than Words. Festival of Art and Explicit Poetry (Ourense, 2021); and We’ll Have More Than Words. Festival of Art and Explicit Poetry (Ourense, 2022).
