El Corte Inglés Málaga hosts the presentation and screening of L’elisir d’amore (1832), one of the most popular comic operas of the 19th century. The event will take place on Thursday, 13 August at 6:30 p.m., within the cycle Hablando de Ópera (VII), directed by Lourdes Jiménez Fernández, Doctora en Historia del Arte and cultural manager.
The production features Roberto Alagna, Angela Gheorghiu, Roberto Scaltriti, Simone Alaimo and Elena Dan, with the Orquesta y Coro de la Ópera Nacional de Lyon. The opera has a total running time of 125 minutes.
With music by Gaetano Donizetti and an Italian libretto by Felice Romani, L’elisir d’amore premiered in Milan in 1832 to immediate acclaim. Since then, it has remained a staple of the operatic repertoire worldwide. Its enduring success lies in the freshness and charm of its score, the precise characterisation of its protagonists, and the tenderness Donizetti infused into archetypal figures, giving them remarkable humanity.
