Conference 'From Michelangelo to Da Vinci: The role of the human microbiome in our health'

On Friday, March 20, starting at 7:30 p.m., you can attend the fifth lecture in the 'XXII Encounters with Science' series, 'From Michelangelo to Da Vinci: The Role of the Human Microbiome in Our Health', at El Corte Inglés Málaga.

The lecture will be given by Dr. Gianfranco Grompone, a microbiologist and engineer.

About the lecture

The human body is colonized by trillions of microorganisms that live and interact with it, particularly on surfaces that exchange substances with the outside world: skin, intestines, mouth, vagina, lungs, etc. These invisible ecosystems constitute the microbiome, which not only coexists with the human species but has also co-evolved with it for thousands of years.

The relatively recent development of massive sequencing technologies, along with more traditional microbiology techniques, has allowed us to uncover the composition and some of the functions of these microbiomes.

This talk will explore together the role of the microbiome in human health and discuss clinical examples of probiotic use in conditions ranging from functional gastrointestinal disorders to gut-brain axis disorders, such as autism spectrum disorders. We will draw inspiration from two Renaissance geniuses to illustrate these scientific advances.

The event will be presented by Dr. Enrique Viguera Mínguez, coordinator of the series. We hope to see you there!
