El Corte Inglés Málaga hosts the 8th lecture of the 22nd ‘Encuentros con la Ciencia’ Cycle, titled “Autism: Debunking Myths, Understanding the Brain”, delivered by Dr. Manuel F. López Aranda from the Department of Cell Biology, Genetics and Physiology at the University of Málaga. The session will take place on Friday, 5 June at 7:30 p.m.

Autism is a complex condition surrounded by myths, misunderstandings and oversimplifications that hinder its proper understanding. This lecture will explore what science really tells us about autism, dismantling some of the most widespread ideas. It will examine how genetic and environmental factors interact during brain development, and how this combination can lead to alterations associated with autism.

Drawing on recent research, the talk will also address the role of biological processes such as inflammation and early‑life infections, and how they may influence the brain when a genetic predisposition exists. Far from simple answers, autism invites us to look at the brain with greater depth. This lecture proposes exactly that: replacing myths with knowledge and moving toward a more rigorous and human understanding of neurological diversity.
